- Departmental Business Manager
- Departmental Head
LLNL:

For all participants listed, include department name, address with mail stop, city, state, zip code, telephone and fax number with area code, and email address.
A signature is required for all campus participants listed on the Title Page. If the Campus requires additional approvals these signatures must also appear on the Title Page.
Please provide a summary of your proposal, not to exceed one page.
Technical description (4-page maximum.)
The 4-page maximum for technical description will be strictly adhered to. Additional pages may be ignored. (Figures and Tables will NOT count toward the 4-page maximum; however, please limit these to no more than 3 pages.) If figures and tables are part of the technical description, then the maximum page limit is a total of 7 pages.
In the technical description, describe:
- scientific motivation
- anticipated scientific product
- nature of the proposed work
- nature of student(s) and researcher(s) involvement
- where and how the work will be performed
- why the proposed work is new, interesting, and/or potentially valuable
List all references cited in the technical description.
Vita and Publications
Provide an abbreviated vita, not to exceed two pages per person, for all researchers involved, on campus and at LLNL. Include a list of not more than five publications that are relevant to the proposal.
The proposed budget must list expenses by category, see Budget Template Download 20K, [.xls]
- Provide details and projected costs for needed supplies.
- Domestic travel should list purpose and destination for each trip, foreign travel is not supported except for unusual circumstances.
- Do not include computer and software costs, major equipment, or administrative salaries.
A one-page memo from the LLNL collaborator (Co-PI) is required.
The LLNL collaborator (Co-PI) memo should:
- Be signed by the Co-PI's Division or Department Head.
- Describe the Co-PI's expected role and contributions in the proposed research
- Clarify the proposal's relationship to the CO-PI's LLNL program, and
- Explain how the proposed work is significant to LLNL's mission-based research.
This memo may be sent directly by the LLNL collaborator, or the Campus PI may submit it as part of the proposal package.
Mail one original and e-mail proposal text in pdf format as a single document by close of business on June 30, 2008 to:
- Lisa Lopez, Asst. to Administrator (lopez68@llnl.gov)>
- Institute of Geophysics and Planetary Physics
- Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory
- 7000 East Ave., L-413
- Livermore, CA 94550
Proposals submitted will be peer-reviewed by a committee of researchers. The committee will be comprised of LLNL researchers representing the areas to be funded, and may include members of UC campuses having relevant expertise. Where appropriate, advice from researchers outside the UC system will also be sought. The outcome of the review process will be a short summary of the strengths and weaknesses of each proposal, together with a numerical ranking of each proposal. The ranking will be based on the following criteria:
- Scientific merit
- Significance to LLNL programs
- Vitality of collaboration
The above ranking system will be used to help make internal funding decisions and will not be made public.
Funding decisions will be communicated by e-mail.
It is expected that the results of a funded proposal will be documented in an appropriate technical publication.
At the end of the project period, two reports are due:
- An accounting report of the funds spent
- A two-page technical report
